Brave Ground, a warm, neutral shade, has been chosen as Dulux’s Colour of the Year for 2021.
The brand’s experts carefully analyse global trends to bring consumers a paint colour to reflect the current zeitgeist.
Offering to project stability against the backdrop of a tumultuous 2020, Dulux’s chosen shade is earthy and comforting, without being too bright or obviously drawing the eye.
Brave Ground: a calming, earthy colour
The brand calls Brave Ground ‘a bolstering shade that connects back to nature and the simple things’. It promotes stability and ‘a firm foundation for change and creativity in your home’. While it’s claimed that Brave Ground was chosen before the pandemic, it’s no doubt fitting for the way in which our homes have been our safe havens during the past few months.
Dulux explains: ‘what has emerged from our trend forecast this year is that we’re all reassessing what really matters in our lives. We’re taking stock and finding a new and positive way forward by having faith in ourselves, working together, building on the past and planning for the future. It takes courage to embrace change and our homes can help provide a solid and supportive foundation, as well as giving us the scope to be creative.’
While we don’t subscribe to chasing trends, which can often be unsustainable and not a true reflection of our own style, we love the sentiment behind Brave Ground and find calmness in this neutral tone. The connection it represents between us and the earth – and bringing that connection inside – is a pertinent reminder that despite a global health pandemic, our responsibility to be conscious of our environmental impact on the earth hasn’t disappeared.
A slow living interiors aesthetic doesn’t have to be neutral – slow living is a mindset, rather than a look, after all. Embrace the psychology of colour to find your own winning colour palette and consider the philosophies of slow interiors and slow design when redecorating to find sustainable solutions you’ll love for years to come.
